Advocacy Partner

Global Education First Initiative

The Global Education First Initiative (GEFI) seeks to unleash human potential by nurturing the unique gifts that every child brings to the world. GEFI and EAC are partnering to bring the knowledge and expertise of both organizations together to work toward ensuring that all children receive a quality basic education.

Global Education First Initiative

GEFI is led by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon. It brings together a broad spectrum of world leaders and advocates who aspire to use the transformative power of education to build a better future for all. The Initiative's three priorities are to put every child in school, improve the quality of learning, and foster global citizenship.

The Initiative aims to raise the political profile of education, strengthen the global movement to achieve quality education and generate additional and sufficient funding through sustained advocacy efforts.  Achieving gains in education will have an impact on all the Millennium Development Goals, from lower child and maternal mortality, to better health, higher income and more environmentally-friendly societies.

To provide the desperately needed “breakthrough in education”, GEFI will:

·      Rally together a broad spectrum of stakeholders for the final push to 2015 and ensure we deliver on the promise of universal access to primary education;

·      Spur a global movement to put quality, relevant and transformative education right at the heart of the social, political and development agendas; and

·      Generate additional and sufficient funding for education through sustained global advocacy efforts.

The EAC and GEFI partnership will work to help achieve the Millennium Development Goal 2 (MDG2) to see every child have access to a full course of quality primary education. The EAC GEFI partnership will help ensure that the need for quality education is central to the global political and development agendas. The efforts of Her Highness Sheika Moza bint Nasser, chairperson of EAA and founder of EAC sits on the steering committee of GEFI.
