Derek J. Langford joined Educate A Child (EAC) as Education Web and Communications Specialist in the EAC Engagement Team. As an experienced professional Mr. Langford has worked in youth development, teacher training, conflict resolution and project management. During his tenure with Global Kids in NYC, Mr. Langford led a delegation of youth activists to Temuco, Chile to implement service-learning projects with the indigenous Mapuche community and moderated round-table discussions at the Council on Foreign Relations between youth leaders and scholars. In Saint-Louis, Senegal, he trained teachers in interactive pedagogy and curriculum development as a teaching fellow with IFESH/USAID.
Mr. Langford also worked for the World Bank, covering the organisation’s West Africa security desk, and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars’ Africa Program. Before joining Educate A Child, he worked with Tetra Tech DPK in Liberia to train police officers and Teach For Pakistan on an education innovation initiative.
Mr Langford holds an MA in International Affairs from American University and Sciences Po, Paris; BA in History and Political Science from SUNY University at Buffalo, he speaks English, French, conversational German and Swahili, and basic Spanish and Urdu. Mr Langford has lived and worked in the USA, France, Chile, Senegal, Liberia and Pakistan.
Mr. Langford is originally from Rochester, NY. He is married, an avid book reader, and enjoys learning new languages and spending time with this family.
